Which Custom Items Do You Really Need?
I create custom homes for my clients - with details and furnishings that can’t be found anywhere else. It’s my signature look! But I also know that not everyone can afford to have custom-everything in their homes. So if I had to choose, here are the three things that I would make custom every single time!
The Sofa (aka Couch)
Upholstery pieces like your sofa get a lot of wear and tear. And they also stand out in the room as pieces your guests are most likely to notice. With a custom piece, you’ll usually get a higher quality, which makes it a better investment. And you’ll have a statement piece that really shows your personality. I created the tufted sofas above for one of my clients, using a performance fabric that will stand up to her pets and kids. So she gets high-fashion that is also hard working. That’s what custom can do for you.
Original Art
If there’s one place you should strive to go custom, it’s definitely art! No matter what your budget is, you can find original art to fit that budget. Look at local galleries or antique stores. Flea markets even have some great art booths! I’ve even had clients who framed gorgeous pieces from their children or other relatives to make a striking statement. Original art showcases personality and livens up a room. So be sure it’s something that really speaks to you!
Custom Wall Finishes
This one may surprise you, but it’s become one thing that completely sets me apart from other designers. I love to work with custom artists to create unusual and gorgeous walls in my own home and in my projects. Above is a specialist preparing the wall for one of the faux finishes I love. It takes a lot of work, but when it’s finished, you can have breathtaking results like the gold-leafed walls I designed below!
Custom looks do really make your home different and they also showcase who YOU are! What custom looks do you have in your home? Let me know in the comments below!
