Where to Go Bold with Tile
There are so many incredible types of tile out there today! Ceramic, glass, marble, concrete - there’s a lot to choose from. And rather than going safe, I think we should take advantage of the bold and colorful patterns that are out there in tile, too! If you’re nervous about a semi-permanent decision like tile, then don’t put it on your kitchen floor or backsplash. Instead, take that leap and make a bolder design choice in one of these spaces!
Guest Bath
The guest bathroom is a great place to experiment! After all, if you don’t absolutely love it, at least it isn’t the bathroom you use. Kidding! The real reason I think this is the place for bold tile is because you can really WOW your guests! That’s why I chose a deep, dark tile for my own guest bathroom above. It’s an amazing look with the handpainted walls I designed and it gives my guests their own moment of high style.
Laundry Room
I love a bold pattern on the floor, and the laundry room I designed above was the perfect place for that! It looks like a fabulously patterned carpet or rug, but is perfect for a room that can get wet. The laundry room - and really any space in your home - shouldn’t be an afterthought. This is a fantastic space for bright color and great patterns, so go wild!
Utility Spaces
A utility room or a pantry can also take bold tile, and that can add an element of surprise when opening the door! I went dimensional in my own utility room above with a gorgeous cement tile. I’m painting the cabinetry a bright yellow for a gorgeously fun space!
Master Bathroom
You deserve a unique look in your own space, too! So consider using tile in a more artistic way for the master bathroom. In the shower above, I designed what looks like a framed piece of art, but created with William Morris-like tiles. It makes a statement, and it’s going to look incredible with the William Morris wallpaper we’re installing, too!
Think out of the box with tile - there’s so much to choose from! And if you want more ideas, see my Tile Talk pinboard here.
Warmly,
