Smart Solutions for Bathroom Design
The rooms that need the most function in your home are the kitchen and the bathroom. They need to look fabulous, but also work for you. I love to design bathrooms that have great functionality. That makes a huge difference in how happy my clients are with their home, not just today, but also a long time into the future. If you’re planning a bathroom renovation, be sure you consider these smart solutions.
Tile & Texture
Tile floors are super popular - and with good reason! They look sleek and they are so easy to keep clean. Plus, they are great for repelling water and moisture. But there is one drawback. They can be very slick underfoot. To avoid any slipping, I like to choose tiles that have a texture to them. Or I will select smaller tiles that create their own texture once they are grouted in place. A good example of that would be penny tile. So think carefully about what you put on the bathroom floor.
Take a Seat
If you think seats in a shower are just for an aging population, think again! A built-in bench is terrific for relaxing, or for someone who may have a disability or injury. They also give you a place to shave your legs or wash your feet. It’s a multipurpose solution that you’ll thank me for!
Lots of Light
I’ve talked before about the importance of layering light, but it is critical in a bathroom. This room needs to have the option of being the brightest room in the house. Sconces help create light near mirrors. Canned lights take the bright level up to where it needs to be. And a hanging statement fixture brings visual interest and a good overhead light.
Built-In Vanity
Every single client of mine loves the built-in vanities I’ve designed. It’s such a great place to apply makeup or to wind down at the end of the day. Be sure to include storage for toiletries and lotions, as well as great lighting for the mirror.
