Before and After: A Fabulous New Kitchen

There’s nothing better than a new build for creating the perfect kitchen for my clients. We get to dream big and to give them every idea and solution that will make the kitchen work perfectly for them. In my Cherry Hills project, we not only created a functional space in this room, but a stunning design that was inspired by my client’s art. Let’s take a look at how it all started and where we took the design!

BEFORE: The construction phase

In the Beginning

Of course the first step is to plot the layout and general design of the space with the builder, and in this case I had a great partner in Flair! I’ve worked with them before and I always enjoy the projects we create together. I loved the original design of this house that included those amazing corner windows in the kitchen. So my first step was to configure the cabinetry around them and to define how the island would integrate into the overall layout.

BEFORE: The construction phase

BEFORE: An electrical and plumbing plan

Construction Details

My clients wanted an open plan for the living and kitchen space because they love to entertain, so I knew the island would play an important role in both offering a work and seating space, but also defining a border between the kitchen and living areas. Every single detail is important in a kitchen design, including where the plumbing and electrical will be laid. In the photo above, you can see the wiring in the ceiling that will become important later!

BEFORE: Looking up!

Looking Up

Because I had a very bold plan for the cabinetry in this room, I wanted the kitchen to have a lot of opportunities to lighten things up. The ceiling not only helps bounce the light around the room, but it also defines the space. The stunning wood on the kitchen’s ceiling gives it a natural beauty.

BEFORE: The painting stage

BEFORE: Gorgeous floors

Paint and Flooring

After the painters finished spraying the walls, the island, and the nearby areas, we were finally able to install the stunning stone floor. We selected the color and style at Earth Stone Colours. When you see the cabinetry, you’ll understand why we went with this design!

The Kitchen Takes Shape

At this point, you can really begin to see how the kitchen will be designed! The cabinetry from Poggenpohl Houston was carefully planned to include everything my client might need, both for storage and for the best functionality. The fridge, range, and sink are placed perfectly for the most efficient layout. And now the color story is starting to take shape.

AFTER: The inspiring art

Inspiring Art

The color palette throughout this home was inspired by the art. In the kitchen that was no different! This painting by Janna Watson that we acquired through Laura Rathe Fine Art Houston led us to the bold black and grey colors on the cabinetry. The base and tall cabinets are in Black Matte and the wall cabinets are Titanium Anthracite. The counters and backsplash coordinate perfectly in Kosmos from Pomagranit Houston.

AFTER: The final design!

The Final Design

The final look was completed with barstools from Gabriel Scott New York and a stunning contemporary Kuzco Chute Motion pendant. This is a light-filled and dramatic space that definitely makes a statement! But it’s amazing that all of this starts on a computer screen with a plan - and none of it is left to chance or to the last minute. That’s the beauty of holistic interior design!
