My Favorite Things: A Can't-Miss Color

There are a lot of colors in a designer’s toolbox, but one is asked for by clients more than any other: Blue! That shouldn’t be a surprise since blue is consistently listed as America’s - and the world’s - favorite color. It is serene and calming on one end of the blue spectrum, and bold and dramatic on the other end. It just happens to be a color that I love to work with, too.

Blue in the kitchen? Absolutely! In this Katy kitchen, it adds the perfect focal point and sets the island off from the rest of the cabinets. And there is nothing prettier than Cadet Blue!

A fabulous navy color can also take an all-white bathroom from nothing to nautical in an instant! It’s a crisp and tailored look that I love.

The Yale Blue I used in this laundry room is so special - it has a little bit of a muted tone to it and makes me want to do laundry all day long (and that’s saying something).

There are some lovely lighter blues in the Sky or Denim categories that are perfect for bedrooms and coastal settings. You see this color a lot in boys’ bedrooms - but remember that girls love blue, too!

There’s a reason that blues are so calming - they are water colors! The tile we put in this bathroom reminds me of the Caribbean. And by the way, that walk-in shower is meant to be a dog shower, too. Notice that the tile is at “dog height” all around the room!

And then there are the turquoise blues that I love so much! This dining room I designed for a beach house has a lot of blues, but I think the chairs are probably my favorite hue.

What do you think of the color blue? Is it YOUR favorite color? Let me know in the comments below!

Warmly,
