Bunk Room Before and After

I’ve worked on several houses for these clients, so when we began to design a new build home for them, I knew it would be centered on family. They love to entertain and have family visit them, especially their grandchildren. They wanted a home where everyone, from adults to children, could feel comfortable and welcome. So we decided that a space just for the grandchildren would be perfect!

To maximize the space for all the grandchildren, I designed custom bunk beds that could easily fit four. Easy-to-access stairs and railings up top keep everything safe while looking super-chic. I also added storage to the bottom bunks so there’s plenty of room for toys and clothing.

We decided on a pretty blue-grey for the beds, a color that is soothing and calming when it’s bed time. But we kept the neutral cream for the walls to brighten and lighten the entire room.

Of course the paint (Benjamin Moore’s Boothbay Gray) is easy to clean. And the rug we installed will resist anything that active kids can throw at it. We wanted the kids to be able to play without any worries about ruining the room.

Details matter, even in a kids’ space, so I included small reading lights in each bunk to create a little reading nook. And the porthole window adds a playful vibe.

A child-sized table and chairs — once used by the couple’s children — add nostalgia and charm. These well-loved pieces carry memories of laughter and play, now ready to create new ones for the next generation.

How do you like the final room? My clients are thrilled with the gorgeous look for their grandchildren!

Warmly,

Beth
