Behind the Scenes: Powder Bath Transformation
A powder room is the unsung hero of the home. It’s the room most guests see (when we can have guests), and it’s become a workhorse recently as we’re all washing our hands hundreds of times a day. It’s a hardworking room, for sure, but I believe that a powder bath should also be a gorgeous room. It’s a fun space to experiment with because it’s small and usually off to the side. I knew I wanted my new powder bath in my own home to be a showstopper - and it finally is! Let’s look at the transformation and what makes it so wow-worthy:
Custom Color
Creating a custom color with Benjamin Moore for the cabinetry was the first step in bringing the drama to this room. I knew I wanted a “water color” - after all, this is a room with a lot of water activities, right?! So I chose a color between Cadet Blue and Cobalt - two of my favorites. I also designed the cabinet to float on the wall. That helps create a sense of space in a small room.
Artistic Touches
A couple of weeks ago, I told you how much I love to create custom wall treatments in my projects. In my own powder room, I wanted another water symbol, so I asked Luxe Fine Finishes to create a gorgeous wavy pattern in blues on the walls. It is stunning and literally makes people gasp when they see it! You can see the finished version below.
Luxe Lighting
The walls above are prepped and ready for the stunning sconces I chose for this room. The right light is really important here. Powder rooms rarely have windows, so you want bright light since it is essentially a task-oriented space. At the same time, overhead light creates unflattering shadows on faces, so you don’t want your guests running out of the room, either. I chose sconces here that flank the mirror, offering the best light for you and your guests.
Fab Fixtures
You may think that fixtures like plumbing, knobs, and hardware aren’t the “fun” parts. But you think wrong! There are so many gorgeous designs out there - like this stunning Watermark faucet and DXV sink. It’s a sleek and sophisticated look that I love. And check out that sconce!
Ta-da! And there is the finished powder room - we’re just waiting for the mirror to complete the look! I’m so thrilled with the final results, and I can’t wait until I can welcome guests back into my home to see it, too. Is your powder room bringing the drama? If not, what would you change? Warmly,
