Before and After: A Chic London Home
When my clients purchased a pied-à-terre in London’s Kensington neighborhood, I was so excited to get to work. The flat needed a big renovation and the small spaces needed to be reworked thoughtfully to take advantage of every square inch. Let’s take a look at the before and after of this fab apartment!
Living Room
To get to the stunning finished room you see above, we first had to redo all of the floors, strip the walls, and reface that fireplace. It was a lot of work, but the result was definitely worth it. My client and I also had an amazing time searching through the Notting Hill and antique and vintage markets for some fantastic finds. Like that stunning coffee table and the beautiful light fixture. I love to mix those older pieces with more modern art and seating for a perfect balance of old and new.
Kitchen
The kitchen was a small space, but it didn’t really need a lot of work. I wanted to rethink the floor with a stunning new tile design, and I lacquered the cabinetry to add a touch of chic sophistication. The paint color warmed the space, as did the brass hardware and fixtures. Finally, I added a black stone backsplash to extend the look of those beautiful counters.
Primary Bedroom
The original primary bedroom was dark and dreary and had no real style at all. I added a textured wall covering for visual interest and to add warmth to the room. The new floors look gorgeous with their dark finish and complement the white stone fireplace. Custom drapery and a lovely new chaise created a fabulous oasis.
Primary Bathroom
In the primary bathroom, there was the same vanilla design, along with a strangely shaped bathtub that took up too much space. I put in a new tub and designed a gorgeous tile feature wall with new Ann Sacks stone. Warm brass fixtures and a new vanity complete this chic new look.
Guest Bedroom
The spare bedroom not only needed to welcome guests, but it also serves as the home office for my clients. A beautiful wall covering from Phillip Jeffries created an eye-catching feature wall in the new space. And the gorgeous light fixture we found in an antique shop adds a stunning style. It’s a far cry from the crowded and not-so-exciting space that we started with! Across from the bed, I added a functional writing desk and a beautiful mirror.
Guest Bathroom
There was so little space for the guest bathroom, but I found a way to make it work with a small and unique sink, as well as a walk-in shower. The beautiful tile patterns make a lot of excitement in a tiny room.
