5 Secrets to Styling the Bed of Your Dreams
A good night’s sleep is critical to your health, and nothing sends you off to dreamland faster than a well-dressed bed! Here are my 5 tips for styling a bed that’s gorgeous and inviting!
Texture Talk
The best way to entice the sandman is with luxurious and welcoming soft textures. And you want that feeling for sure in a bed. I always like to think of a bed as something like a beautiful cloud - it should make you want to sink right into it and drift off to sleep. So be sure you’re offering those amazing textures.
Pillow Play
I’m clearly a designer who believes in plenty of comfy, fluffy pillows, but be sure to vary shape and size to keep all the pillows on the bed visually interesting. The standard for me tends to be two large square euro pillows, two standard queen (or king) rectangular pillows in front, and at least one lumbar pillow. Five pillows, three sizes; but you can always go higher with both figures as I did in the bedroom above! And those pillows all serve a purpose, so select the ones that you can pile up to support you when you read, to hold your head at the perfect level for sleep, and to cuddle up to if you’re a side sleeper.
The Perfect Sheets
Some clients love the ultra-soft jersey sheets and others want to feel a bit of starchiness in the thread count. It is critical to select whatever style is going to make you the most comfortable - and you may have to try a few different materials until you find the right one. But the MOST important thing? Consider pressing your linens. There is nothing like slipping between crisp, smooth, cool sheets on a summer’s evening! Who has the time, I hear some of you asking? Well, I’m one of those people who finds ironing relaxing, so I love to zone out during whatever new show I’m binging. And sending your sheets out for fluff and fold, and specifying that they be ironed too, is an indulgence I’m happy to pay for as well. Try it - it may change your life!
Extra, Extra!
Extra blankets and throws are so important in a bedroom. They add inviting layers to the bed, but they also help you stay warm on cool nights. And if one person in a couple is more hot-natured, the other person has an extra blanket to fight off the chill from air conditioning.
A Beautiful Foundation
Let’s be honest - you can have the most gorgeous bedding and the fluffiest pillows. But if your mattress is lumpy or old, you might as well not have bothered. Invest in that mattress because you will spend a lot of time sleeping on it. Don’t ruin that fabulous rest with a terrible foundation.
Use these tips to send yourself into dreamland!
Warmly,
