The Best Place for Home Decor
“Where did you get that?” is a question I hear a lot. Interior designers do have great trade companies and secret sources that help us find the very best things for our clients. But there’s one place that I love to purchase home decor that anyone can shop in - an antique/vintage store. No matter what the style of your home is, you can always find something great in a really good antique store. And it will almost always be something that no one else will have. This month I was able to go to a legendary shopping destination in London, Alfies Antique Market.
Alfies is a 30,000-square-foot indoor market that opened in Marylebone in 1976. It has 75 vendors that offer incredible antiques, silver, furniture, jewelry, paintings, ceramics, glass, and vintage clothing. The two things that I love to source here are lighting and midcentury modern furniture.
A perfect example is the modular glass-and-brass cocktail table I found above. Or those fabulous nesting tables you can see in the background. So much to choose from!
The thing about antique and vintage pieces is that they tell a story, they have a history, and they are unique. They show your personality and what appeals to you. Every home should tell the story of who lives there, rather than looking like a showroom or a furniture store.
The London flat that I’m designing here is definitely going to have personality - thanks to what we’ve sourced at Alfies. What does your home say to guests? Does it really reflect who you are? Does it tell your story? Be sure to discover the best antique and vintage markets in your area and spend some time looking for pieces that really speak to you!
Warmly,
Beth
