House Tour: An Art-Filled Modern Home
For a new build home in Houston, my clients were very clear about what they wanted. They were looking for a contemporary home that did not feel too modern or cold and that would showcase their love of travel and the art they have collected over the years. They asked for a home where they could entertain their family and friends with an open plan that blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor living. With the fabulous Flair Builders team, I was able to deliver stunning interiors that ticked every box for them! Let’s take a tour!
GREAT ROOM
The entry sets the tone, with a custom front door that offers an artistic touch. It leads into a great room that is filled with the client’s gorgeous art. The home has such a collected feel with unique pieces the client has gathered over the years. You can just see one of my favorite pieces to the right in the photo below. It is the beaded surfboard from the Huichol Indians, who are renowned for their colorful artwork. The artwork allows them to express their reverence, relationship, and interdependence with nature, including earth, water, fire, and air.
KITCHEN
I wanted the kitchen to be a real show stopper, so we crafted custom black cabinetry that complements the stunning quartz counters and backsplash. The upper cabinets are painted in Anthracite Gray. And the gorgeous natural light floods into the space from the unique windows. Original art from Janna Watson fits the color palette beautifully, while an incredible mobile-like light fixture from Kuzco floats above the bar.
Dining room
In the dining room, a beautiful work of art from Chinese artist Zhuang Hong Yi inspired the entire palette for the home. To fit the space perfectly, I custom created a 96-inch square table with baby ostrich leather inset into it. I covered the dining chairs in Novavelvet in Aubergine to reflect that beautiful color palette in the art.
SITTING AREA
In the sitting area just off the kitchen, I designed a conversation area with Kreiss swivel chairs that allow guests and family to gather. Just beyond you can see the home’s beautiful bar. The highlight of this area is the stunning onyx feature wall that’s backlit.
Powder Bath
In the powder bath, I wanted to make a strong artistic statement. I brought in custom painters to craft a handpainted geode pattern. I also used a clear backlit glass mirror from Hastings, and beautiful floating cabinetry that’s finished in Sapphire Blue Metallic paint.
Primary Suite
Texture is the key to the beautiful primary bedroom. The custom bed has a ridged wood frame with a soft upholstered inset panel. The nightstands are in a stunning wood with glass tops and metal hardware. And the rug, bedding, and drapery add fabulous textural elements. The art you can see just off the sitting area is a stunning piece from Gavin Rain, created with small concentric dots painted in different colors of acrylic paint.
In the primary bathroom, I used 3D tiles to create an art feature behind the freestanding tub. This is a serene space that allows my clients to decompress and destress.
Guest Suite
In the guest bedroom, I used custom drapery to surround the bed, creating a quiet oasis. And in the guest bathroom, I used a mosaic of glass tile from Daltile to mimic the look of shimmering water.
Outdoor Room
Moving glass doors bring the indoor and outdoor spaces together beautifully. They lead from the great room to a covered terrace with beautiful furnishings from Bernhardt.
I loved designing this personal and custom space for my clients! If you would like your own fabulous new home, give my team a call!
Warmly,
Beth
