Before and After: My Kensington Project

When my client purchased a pied-à-terre in London, I was thrilled to be asked to oversee the renovation. Located in the stunning Kensington borough, the flat needed a much more modern update. And since it is meant to be an escape for my client and her family, I created a serene palette of neutrals and daring black. We still have some finishing touches to put on the rooms, but I couldn’t wait to show you the before-and-after of this fabulous flat!

BEFORE: The Entry

The Entry

The entry before was crowded with storage and the things we tend to drop as we come in the door. I believe an entry should make an amazing first impression, so I added a glam botanical wallpaper to brighten the hall. And we used stunning sconces to add more light and style. Even though the photo below was taken during installation, you can already see how beautiful this entry will be!

BEFORE: The Kitchen

The Kitchen

London flats are notorious for their small kitchens, but this one had a lot of storage and was a very efficient space. It was just very vanilla. We kept the black counters, but updated the cabinetry with beautiful lacquered paint. What really makes this room pop, though, is that tile floor. I had a blast laying out the pattern to create a show-stopping look.

Primary Bedroom

The primary bedroom had beautiful windows and a fireplace, which I love in a bedroom. But it definitely needed more personality and style. We found a beautiful vintage Murano light fixture at Vicenzo Caffarella in Alfies Antique Market that really draws all eyes. I also created a custom chaise and a custom upholstered bed, both of which help to define a serene space.

Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom was definitely just a plain space without any life to it. I used a Phillip Jeffries wallpaper to define the walls, and created a custom upholstered bed with fabric from Holly Hunt. Once again, though, the Starlight crystal chandelier we found on a Fulham Road shopping trip adds personality and glam to the space. I love vintage and antique items mixed with modern style to craft a room with a lot of personality!

What do you think of this transformation? I can’t wait to show you the bathrooms and the living room! Stay tuned….
