A Bold New Exterior

There are silver linings in everything - even a devastating event that destroys your house. After the shock and emotion wear off, you’re able to think about how you want to do things differently, or what you may want to change. And that can be a great thing! So after a hurricane and flood, my family and I decided we would rethink everything about our house.

The house after the hurricane

You can see the results for the interiors here, but I didn’t want to leave the exterior out of the changes. I wanted to be BOLD. The original house was lovely, but it was a bland beige. I loved everything else about the exterior except that color.

The original color

I started looking at the color around that door frame and thinking WHAT IF?! What if we went gray, but a BOLD gray that’s almost black?? So we started to play with some paint samples.

The original paint test

I have clients who might hesitate at making a big leap that’s out of their comfort zone, but it’s my job as a designer to let them know that they’re in good hands. Envisioning how something will look when it’s complete is one of my super powers, so as soon as I saw these samples, I knew we were going in the right direction!

The finished look!

Once that gray was on the exterior, I was thrilled with the results! It is a bold color decision, but at the same time, the home blends more seamlessly into the landscape. It’s a gorgeous look that is both sophisticated and unique.

The new exterior

You can see a few more changes that we made here, too. We changed the drive from a circular design to a more geometric style that complements the front of the house and its architecture. I love how chic the design is now!

The backyard

In the backyard, I used light blue upholstery to really pop against the paint color on the house and the metal finish on the furniture. It creates a chic outdoor space that’s perfect for relaxing and conversation.

So what do you think of my bold color selection?! Would you take a step on the dark side for your exterior? Let me know in the comments section below!

Warmly,

Beth
