Summer Showers

One of the most important things we use every day, yet don’t put much thought into, is the humble shower. It wakes us up in the morning, and soothes us before bed at night. In climates like Houston, it’s our best friend during our hot and humid summers! So this designer believes if you are renovating or building new, that lots of thought be put into your shower.

One option I’m loving these days is an open shower, so the bathroom isn’t segmented into a series of little boxes. It just feels very modern and perfect for today’s minimalist and tailored styles. It’s also a great example of universal design, as there is no lip or door for the mobility impaired.

Another option I’m loving is the opposite of an open shower, as in a completely enclosed steam/shower, like this example from Mr. Steam. A shower is lovely, but a good steam is a dream, and the option of having a steam shower in the home, rather than a spa or a gym, is a healthy and luxurious option.

Another option is the shower head - do you want a wall mount head? A rain shower head, or a hand-held option? In my University project we went with a traditional wall mount and a hand-held in the tub for the best of both worlds.

Some prefer a rain style shower coming from overhead. They can be ridiculously relaxing and addicting.

I think I speak for all women when I say the the best showers have a bench, or at least room for a free-standing stool…

One of my favorite trends for spa baths today is a wet room. Look at how amazing Jessica Alba’s shower is - it’s maybe the dreamiest wet room I’ve ever seen…
