I love for the rooms I design to tell a story, sometimes literally through the use of toile. It’s a printed fabric that usually features a pastoral landscape, animals, or figures.
These fabrics were popular in the 18th century from their first designs in France to Colonial America, but they are finding new popularity today in traditional and transitional interiors.
Originally, the designs would be featured in red, green, black, and blue, but new color combinations are shaking up the Old School looks.
And pastoral landscapes of past centuries are giving way for more modern interpretations, like the modern city views of London below.
